Meeting was called to order by Debbie Thomas at 7:08pm.
Discussed Optimist club double booking of hall. Upstairs Theatre group from 8pm-10pm, with us downstairs 7pm-9pm. Asked all to be respectable of noise after 8pm, just have to work through it, we will see if our mike is too loud?

Asked for someone from the membership to consider being the recording secretary for general meetings. Cindy Huitema stepped up to offer her help, at meetings she attends.

Introduced new DSS student volunteer Brant Richardson.
Treasurer’s report tabled till Kim Christoff returns.
Mentioned last few months more money coming in by donation than going out.

Town planters have been cleaned of Christmas decor by Rob and Lori Maracle. The spring decorations were planted by Deb Z, Debbie T, Gloria Hunter and Marlene Link, with Marlene donating curly willow, and the BIA paid for 14 trays of painseys used. BIA to add yellow ribbons.

Earth Day is Wednesday April 22, invited anyone available to help install aluminum edging purchased for 2 town beds, as well as some bed clean up in town. Start time 10:00am behind Duliban Insurance.

Also mentioned Earth Day sale at Veermeers, 70% off last years potted stock to Hort members, just show your card. Otherwise the usual 10% off for Hort members on new stock.

Reminded everyone of Lions Home and Garden Show coming weekend, asked members to bring a friend, since membership drive will be our focus. Explained draw for 2 door prizes. A ballot for each membership purchased. Asked for volunteers to help at the booth, the booth set up that morning.

Mentioned Dist 9 Forum, outlined speakers, times, registration, cost. Asked members with online access to have a look on our website for full schedule. Let anyone without on-line access know we have about 14 hard copys available.

Mentioned Judy had wholesale plants and bulbs for sale to members tonight, see her at break and after meeting adjourned.

Plant sale drop-off is Friday May 8 between 6-8pm at the Farmers Market. Asked for volunteers to price and sort. That all plants be in containers, and marked with type, colour, water/sun requirements.
Day of plant sale, still need volunteers for set-up, clean-up, and during the sale.
Beth Powell brought in pots for anyone that needs them. Mentioned that the Optimists will not be holding their indoor craft garage sale this year, but at a later date, another location, and they are looking for donations of items.

A Junior Gardeners club has been proposed by Margaret and Mark Bottrell and Judy Jeffries. They have run it in the past. For now we are looking for interest and support from the public, prior to going ahead. We will promote it at Lions Home and Garden Show.

Mary Lou brought one more polished Hort torphy from the past, to view and then put in storage.

Mentioned that our website has been updated by Ian Steel, with input & suggestions from members and the directors.

Trivia questioned asked-“what did Lester mean when he used the phrase the scotch method, during his presentation last month. Phil Gebhardt answered correctly.

Our guest speaker was Jack Kent from the Potting Shed. His speaking topic was “all things lily”.
