WHAT A GREAT DISPLAY OF OUR SOCIETY MEMBERS WALKING IN THE MUDCAT PARADE WITH IAN STEEL AND BETTY BALLANGER CARRYING OUR BANNER, PRESIDENT JUDY JEFFERY DRIVING HER ”WHEELS“ AND MARY LOU JOHNSTON ON HER TRICYCLE, AND PAM BLANCHARD TRAVELLING IN A VINTAGE CAR. AND ALL MEMBERS DRESSED IN OUR LOVELY LIME GREEN T-SHIRTS. VERY IMPRESSIVE! SPECIAL ATTRACTION WAS DON DAVIS WALKING WITH HIS PET GREEN WINGED MACAW PARROT LUNA.

NOW WE CAN FOCUS ON THE ABUNDANT SUPPLY OF LOCAL GROWN PRODUCE FROM OUR WEEKLY FARMERS MARKET ON TUESDAY AND SATURDAY AT THE MARKET SQUARE—ESPECIALLY THE STRAWBERRIES NOW IN SEASON. BE SURE TO ATTEND.

NOMINATIONS ARE NOW OPEN FOR THE TRILLIUM AWARDS. NOMINATIONS AND MAY BE MADE BY ANY PERSON WHO CONSIDERS A PROPERTY TO BE AN ASSET TO THE COMMUNITY, INCLUDING THE HOME OWNER. ANY PROPERTY LOCATED WITHIN THE DEFINED LIMITS OF THE TOWN OF DUNNVILLE AS SET OUT BY OUR SOCIETY IS ELIGIBLE.

NOMINATIONS WILL CLOSE ON JUNE 29TH. APPLICATION FORMS ARE AVAILABLE AT CHAMBER OF COMMERCE, LIBRARY, TD CANADA TRUST, JUDY’S PLANTS, GRAND ERIE GARDEN CENTRE.

 

COMING EVENTS:

–          THE MAYOR’S 1OTH ANNUAL CHARITY GOLF CHALLENGE FRIDAY JUNE 18TH AT SUNDRIM GOLF COURSE.

–          CENNTENNIAL GARDENS AT GRANDVIEW LODGE WILL HAVE OFFICIAL GRAND OPENING JUNE 28TH TO CELEBRATE THEIR 100TH BIRTHDAY.

–         THE HALDIMAND WAR MEMORIAL HOSPITAL WILL HAVE THEIR 5TH ANNUAL ROSE GARDEN MEMORIAL DAY ON FRIDAY JUNE 25TH, 2010 OPEN HOUSE IN THE COURTYARD FROM 2:00—4:00 P.M. A SHORT SERVICE WILL BE FOLLOWED BY REFRESHMENTS IN THE P.L. MAILLOUX ROOM IN THE MEDICAL ARTS CENTRE.

–         DUNNVILLE HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY GARDEN TOUR, OPEN TO ALL MEMBERS OF OUR SOCIETY WILL BE JULY 15TH. MEET AT GRACE UNITED CHURCH AT 6:00 P.M. TO CAR POOL. B.B.Q. TO FOLLOW AT HOME OF DORIS THOMSON, 502 MAIN STREET WEST.

–         MAURA’S PATIO TEA ROOM IS NOW OPEN AT JUDY’S PLANTS, 521 MARSHALL ROAD. THE TEA ROOM IS OPEN WEDNESDAY THRU SUNDAY FROM 11:00—4:00P.M. SPECIALIZING IN ENGLISH CREAM TEA, CONSISITING OF POT OF TEA OR COFFEE, HOME BAKED SCONES, JAM , DOUBLE DEVON CREAM.
–         CHECK OUT ALSO THE WIDE VARIETY OF ANNUAL AND PERENNIAL PLANTS AND HANGING BASKETS AT ”JUDY’S PLANTS” FOR SALE.

–         THE WELLAND ROSE SHOW, THEME “RAINBOW OF ROSES” WILL BE JUNE 19, 2010 AT ERNIE ALLEN COURT, SEAWAY MALL WELLAND. OPEN TO PUBLIC 1:30—3:30 P.M.

–         COLES NURSERY IN GRIMSBY OFFER EVERY TUESDAY 25% IN JUNE ALL NURSERY STOCK INCLUDING TREES, SHRUBS, EVERGREENS, VINES, POND PLANTS AND PERRENNIALS. PLEASE SHOW YOUR CARD BEFORE THE SALE IS RUNG IN.

–         FORT ERIE HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY PRESENTS A TRIP TO HAMILTON WATERFRONT & ROYAL BOTANICAL GARDENS WEDNESDAY JULY 7. COST IS $85.00 PHONE SALLY KOWASLSKI AT 905-871-0743.

–         CONVENTION 2012 MEETING IS SATURDAY JUNE 26TH FROM 1—3:00 P.M. AT RITTENHOUSE HALL IN VINELAND. THE FOCUS IS FUNDRAISING.

–         NIAGARA FALLS HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY WILL BE HAVING THEIR 16TH ANNUAL GARDEN WALK SATURDAY JULY 24TH FROM 10:00A.M. – 4:00 P.M.. TICKETS COST $10.00 TO VIEW 11 GARDENS.

–   ONTARIO HORTICULTURAL ASSOCIATION DISTRICT 9 FALL FORUM.
THRU THE GARDEN GATE” WILL BE HELD SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 25TH, 2010 , AT HOLY ROSARY HALL, 35 QUEEN STREET SOUTH IN THOROLD,ONTARIO.

MEETING OPENED BY PRESIDENT JUDY JEFFERY WITH APPROXIMATELY 27 MEMBERS IN ATTENDENCE. PRESIDENT JUDY SPOKE ON WONDERFUL MUDCAT PARADE AND SPECIAL THANKS TO ALL INVOLVED. THE STAR OF THE SHOW WAS LUNA THE GREEN WINGED MACAW WITH DON DAVIS.

THANK YOU WAS EXPRESSED TO KAREN WALTHAM AND HER TEAM WHO PLANTED THE LOVELY FLOWER BEDS AROUND TOWN. KAREN EXPRESSED THANKS TO JAN LOOTS FOR HIS HELP IN ROTO TILLING THE FLOWER BEDS AND ALSO ADITZA WHO HELPED. KAREN EXPLAINED THAT CHARLIE HARTSELL WILL BE WATERING OUR FLOWER BEDS THIS YEAR AND ALSO THE 21 HANGING BASKETS SUPPLIED BY THE B.I.A. AT A COST.

THE HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY HAS SPONSORED AND DONATED THE NEW WATER FOUNTAIN IN FRONT OF THE ROYAL BANK. UNFORTUNATELY THE ELECTRICAL HOOK UP HAS TO BE MADE BEFORE IT WILL WORK. WE HAVE A PRIVATE BUSINESS ESTABLISHING THIS AND HOPE TO SEE RESULTS SOON.

PAT TAYLOR VAN NATTER INTRODUCED OUR GUEST SPEAKER, JOELLE SMITH, A MASTER FLORIST/MANAGER FROM OAKRIDGE GARDEN CENTRE, LOCATED AT 340 HWY # 20, RR# 1, HANNON. MANY TIPS OF ADVICE WHERE GIVEN AS SHE CREATED MANY DIFFERENT ARRANGEMENTS FROM VARIOUS FLOWERS IN THE GARDEN. WE WERE VERY FORTUNATE THAT ALL THE ARRANGEMENTS WERE LEFT TO BE RAFFLED OFF TO THE MEMBERS AND ALSO GIFT BAGS WERE GIVEN TO ALL. THANK YOU WAS EXPRESSED BY PAT TAYLOR VAN NATTER.

WE HAVE A NEW SEATING ARRANGEMENT WITH SMALL TABLES AND CHAIRS MAKING IT MUCH EASIER TO WRITE BITS OF ADVICE.

PRESIDENT JUDY JEFFERY SPOKE ON TERRIBLE RAINY DAY WE HAD FOR OUR PLANT & GARAGE SALE, BUT WE ALSO RAISED CLOSE TO $1200.00

THANKS TO THE STUPENDOUS EFFORT FROM ALL MEMBERS AS THIS IS OUR BIGGEST FUND RAISER OF THE YEAR.

THANKS WAS EXPRESSED TO REGINA LOOTS WHO HAS BEEN FAITHFULLY LOOKING AFTER ALL REFRESHMENTS AT EACH MEETING.

WE ARE CURRENTLY LOOKING FOR SOMEONE TO TAKE OVER THIS DUTY TO MAKE TEA, COFFEE, OBTAIN SUPPLIES OF MILK AND SUGAR AND ARRANGE DONATED DESSERTS.

PRESIDENT JUDY SPOKE ON UPCOMING TRILLIUM AWARDS. NOMINATION FORMS ARE ON EACH TABLE SO PLEASE NOMINATE ANY ADDRESS THAT IS WORTHY. BALLOT BOXES ARE ALSO IN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE, LIBRARY, TD CANADA TRUST, JUDY’S PLANTS, GRAND ERIE.

VOLUNTEERS ARE JANICE, KELLY AND VAL TO HELP JUDGE.

THANKS EXPRESSED TO BETTY BALLANGER, IN CHARGE OF WAYS AND MEANS , WHO MADE A PROFIT OF $42.00 THIS MONTH.

JUDY’S PLANTS ALSO DONATED $14.00 FROM SALE OF HERBS AND VEGETABLES, AND 1 T-SHIRT WAS SOLD AT $8.00

PRESIDENT JUDY SPOKE ON UPCOMING GARDEN TOUR JULY 15TH. WE MEET AT 6:00 P.M. AT GRACE UNITED CHURCH AND CAR POOL. A HOT DOG B.B.Q. WILL BE HELD LATER AT HOME OF DORIS THOMSON, 502 MAIN STREET WEST, DUNNVILLE. EVERYONE WELCOME.

THURSDAY AUGUST 12 TH WILL BE AN EXECUTIVE MEETING AT CHAMBER OF COMMERCE. AT 7:00 P.M.

THURSDAY AUGUST 19TH WILL BE A SURPRISE MEETING, COME AND SEE WHAT IT IS! HELD AT 7:00 P.M. AT GRACE UNITED CHURCH

SATURDAY AUGUST 14TH WILL BE OUR ANNUAL FLOWER & VEGETABLE SHOW HELD AT GRANDVIEW LODGE. ENTRIES ARE RECEIVED FROM 9:00—12:00 AND THEN THEY ARE JUDGED AND DOORS OPEN TO PUBLIC AT 4:00 P.M. VASES AND CONTAINERS ARE SUPPLIED. PLEASE TRY TO ENTER ANYTHING THAT YOU HAVE TO MAKE A SHOW.
